A New Gallery and Some Thing for My Neighbor!

Okay!  So you can plainly see that for the past few weeks I haven’t been online much.  Reason???  One show, Christmas presents to make and an ancient computer!   Sorry!  I promise to be better at it soon!

First, let me tell you about the show called Falala!

It was fun and is worth trying one more time.  We didn’t get a lot of people through the door.  BUT!  The ones who came were wonderful.  Thank you … ALL of you!  It was fun, kind of loud … OK!  I was kind of loud … at times!  J  I had a ball.  I love making art and I love seeing people even more.  I had a hoot!  I hope all of you did too!!!

What sold???  Earrings!  Bracelets!  License plate key rings!  Trophy wine bottle stoppers and more!!!

What made me the happiest???

Selling most of the jewelry I made by pounding out scrap metals!!!  That made me happy!  I have Fanciful Devices to thank … mostly. Some times I want to make things and I'm not sure if they are too "out" there.  I found her website and Etsy site a long time ago.  But, one day she made these earrings that were just too far out there and I fell in love.  Now, I really like jewelry, any kind of jewelry.  BUT!!!!  I love jewelry that is different and hand made.  Please!  PLEASE!  Don’t get me any of that made in China stuff!  I’m sorry.  I just don’t like to see stuff imported here that can be made here.  The saying “buy local” is important to me.  I hope you understand why and feel the same way.

Please check out Fanciful Devices.  She’s amazing and a true leader in her field.  I bought her tutorial on how to make bangle bracelets.  Now, it doesn’t look hard to do.  BUT!  I tried and tried and they were good, just not good enough for me.  SO!  After I read her tutorial I regrouped and my bangles were a hit at the show and a hit during my family Christmas get together on the 22nd.

THEN!!!  Saturday evening at Falala a friend told me about a new gallery in town.  And what should happen next???  Sunday morning I received an email from another friend telling me they were talking about my art in another downtown gallery, Wise Designz, and she wanted me to know about this same new gallery.  They were looking for a recycle artist.  She was kind enough to give me information on the shops owner and its business hours.  SO!  I checked it out!

Now, I’m in the door of this new gallery and it’s called We Do Art.  It’s at 5612 Evergreen Way here in Everett.  The owner of the gallery’s name is Beth and her partner in this business is Joy.  Her husband owns the building and the tavern called the White Buffalo that’s on the south end of that building.  It’s a hopping place with tons of energy.  I’m not big on bars, but I can see this is a place I could hang out.  The people are fun, up beat and the food looks great.  Rumor has it the pizza is wonderful.  YUM!

Friday and Saturday I went back and started bringing in some of my art.  Right now there’s a nice selection of:

* Earrings and leather cuffs I’ve made.
* Wood boxes with stuff on them made into shelves!
* Wood boxes made from 2 license plates that can hold any thing inside or outside.
* My picture holders made of forks.
* Crosses made from old mattresses springs.
* Clip boards made from license plates.
* Key chains made from license plates and golf parts.
* 1 large, funky clock made from a corbel, small ice cream tasting spoons and a funky copper pitcher.
* 3 wine racks.

If you like wine and you like my art style, you’ll love these wine holders.  One can sit on the floor or table top.  The other 2 are mounted on the wall and lean at an angle.  One has a clock on it too!

Here's a couple pictures of my corner of the gallery.  It'll change soon, but, we wanted to get some goodies in there before the end of the year!

All of this is left over from Falala.
I promise to make new stuff very soon!

Stop on by and say HI to Beth.  Then check out my stuff and every one else’s.  There’s a wide variety of goodies to see!  Make sure you check out my bud ... Roxy Gesler!!!

Ask to see the turkey legs!!!  They are fun and were selling like crazy on Friday!

For several years one of my neighbors used to walk by with his little dog.  A few years ago he turned 92 and I was given an invitation to his birthday party and in that invite was a picture of him at around age 2.  Sorry to say, he passed away about a year ago.  After the funeral I took that picture and made it into a large charm for his daughter.  One you could hang on any thing ,,, like a Christmas tree.   I think I made 2 or 3 of them for her.  Well, she asked if I’d make some for her kids and here’s a couple pictures of what she got!!!

Just in time for Christmas!

Isn't he just as cute as can be?

The back.

I miss you Bud!!!

Well, I hope all is going well and you are as ready as can be for the holidays.  Have a good time and be safe!!!

Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!  Shelley

What is FALALA???

Well, it's getting close to Christmas!  Are you even close to ready???

When my kids were little I was usually close to done shopping by now and all the decorations were up.  EEK!  Those were the days.  NOW!  HA!  It takes me until 2 minutes before Christmas is here to be ready!  WHY???  Easy, there are no kids around here now.   So I don't have to figure out how to hide their presents and how to shop while they aren't around so they can catch me.  I sure do miss those days.

This year I am going to go to a last minute holiday gift show.  This show is called FALALA!  This show will be at the Schack art gallery on Hoyt, between Hewitt and Wall streets Friday and Saturday, December 14th (10am - 6pm) and 15th (10am - 7pm).  I sure hope if you are in the area you stop in.  Last year was this shows first year and it was a good show with great artists, but it just didn't seem to draw people in,,, well, until wine time Friday evening.  Then lots of people showed up, drank, chatted with friends and on their cell phones, then left.  OOPS!!!

My real art skills lie in garden art.  For me, I can think of some thing I'd like to see in a garden and make it.  When it comes to a show like this,,, well, garden art just won't sell much.  I am not one of those who makes stuff just to make it.  I make it so people can enjoy it.  If that won't sell much at a show like this, why make it?  Save those for a garden show,,, say Sorticulture???  YEP!!!   SO!  I'm going to make some jewelry.  I did some for Fresh Paint back in August and it sold very well.  So, yep, here I go again.  I love a challenge and making some thing that just isn't comfortable for me is just that!  A big challenge.

I just got started!  I'll have more than just jewelry.  I just finished making a bunch of tree garlands, well, you can use these any where.... but, I thought these would be fun around a tree.  They can take the place of some of those strings of popcorn or what ever you put around your tree.

tree garland???

garland for wall???

I'm also making some of the license plate hangings that people enjoy,

some key chains from license plates, some fused glass magnets from scrap hot glass the glass blowers use,  some wine bottle stoppers from trophies.

Here's a few of the stoppers.  There's also a horse!!!

A few of the trophies paint jobs were BAD!!!  So, I helped them.

A couple other things will be candle holders from old fence boards and old silverware,  some old boxes turned into shelves for your walls, maybe some driftwood and recycled glass hangings.  We'll see as time gets closer and closer to the show.  I am one of those who works their best in the last minutes and I know I'm down to minutes to finish this stuff!!!

I'll try to post a few pictures between then and now so you get a better picture of what will be there.

Hi guys!!!

Since Thanksgiving I've been busy replacing a fence and cleaning up the yard the fence went around.  EEK!!!  Not a pretty sight!!!

Now, it's time to get ready for a last minute holiday gift show at a local art gallery called  Falala.  The show will be December 14th and 15th.  Click here for more information.  I'll give you more as we get closer to the show too!!!!

I've been so busy I really didn't have any thing to say until a few nights ago when I was on Pinterest!!!  YES!!!  I love Pinterest!!!  You know I do!!!   :)

Well, I found a recipe that sounded really good.  SO!  I made it.  It's AMAZING!!!  The flavor is soooooooooooooo good!!!  It's for a soup called Tortellini Sausage Soup and it's from Mel over at Mel's Kitchen Cafe.  I dropped Mel a note asking permission to put his recipe here for you to try.  I looked at a few more of his recipes too ,,, he's got some real winners over there.  Go check it out!  You will not be disappointed!

Tortellini Sausage Soup

*Note: If zucchini isn't in season, you could easily sub chopped spinach or frozen peas here. Also, if you absolutely can't find apple cider, try apple juice and in a last ditch effort, leave it out (although it does add a delicious hint of unique flavor). Even in my little town, I have been able to find Italian chicken sausage. It is lean, healthy and delicious. You want to look for sausage that is in a casing and is uncooked.

*Serves 4-6

3 links Italian sausage (the kind that is uncooked in casings - see note above)
4 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 onion, diced
4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1/2 cup apple cider
1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup chopped carrots
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 medium zucchini, grated (no need to peel)
2 tablespoons dried parsley
8-10 ounce package refrigerated or frozen cheese tortellini

Remove the casings by slicing down one side of the sausage and peeling the casing back from the sausage. In a large pot, cook the sausage over medium heat until it starts to brown, using a wooden spoon to crumble as it cooks. Add the chopped onion and garlic. Continue cooking until the onions are translucent and the sausage is cooked through. Drain any excess grease, if needed (alternately, if your sausage is extra lean, you may need to add a drizzle of olive oil to keep it from sticking).

Stir in the chicken broth, apple cider, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, carrots, oregano, and basil. Bring the soup to a simmer, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir in zucchini and parsley simmer for 10-12 minutes. Add the tortellini and cook until tender (usually only a couple of minutes, even when the packages call for 7-9 minutes cooking time, I only cook the tortellini for 4-5 minutes so it doesn't fall apart). Serve immediately with freshly grated Parmesan, if desired.

OKAY!  So, I'm one of those cooks, bakers actually, that sees a recipe and has to change it.  You don't need to change a thing here!!!  I got a little lazy and only added one zucchini to this pot of soup because I had a bunch of celery left from Thanksgiving.  So, I added 3 stalks of celery and one medium zucchini.  It was so good!!!!

In my house it's just me, a dog and 2 kitties.  SO!  I should have frozen the rest of this soup that night.  I didn't.  Then I had it the next day for lunch.  I should have frozen the rest right then.  I didn't.  SO!  I had the soup the next evening and my tortellinis were laughing at me.  The were trying to fall apart.  It still tasted great, but, the pasta was past soggy!  OOPS!!!
I'm pretty sure I'm taking this soup to our family Christmas get together.  It's fast, easy and full of taste!  Give it a try!

Time to get.  I promise to tell you about Falala soon and show you some of what I'm making for it.

Thanks for checking out Mel!!!

I am Thank Full!!!

Hi guys!

Just a quick note to say

I am a very lucky woman!

I have a great family!

Wonderful friends!

Purfect cats!

And a wonderful Joy!!!

Plus, I have those of you who have stopped by to say HI!!!

As I said,,, I am ThankFull!

Have a wonderful and safe holiday!

May My Fence R.I.P.

Hi guys!  My poor fence is so old and warn out it finally tried to fall over!  This poor thing is over 20 years old and the way it was put up ,,, well, let's just say the fence builder blew it.  AND!  Now the wind blew it ,,, nearly over!!!  :)

SO!  To get ready to put a new fence up I had to clean out the yard.....!!!!  HELP!  What a mess.

I'm one of those people who like to do things just once.  SO!  When it comes to a job like this,,, I can't just move some thing out of the way.  I need to clean it, sort it, fix it, then move it.  What a job.

Because I love to make art with metal and wood - all recycled - I have tons of it laying around in ,,, piles!  By this I mean, if I was in a hurry when I brought it home,,, well, it's still where ever I "threw" it.  Unless of course I used it or tried to use it in some thing I was making.

EEK!  What a mess.  While cleaning, sorting and moving things I found so many things I thought you might like to see.  SO!  Here's a hand full of "crap" from my back yard!!!

Have fun!!!

Yes, all of my panels of old fencing will be in my ... YEP! back yard ... hoping to become a piece of garden art in the near future!

My back yard might be messy!   BUT!   I LOVE IT!!!

A friend said "It's like Disney Land for artists!"

Hope you enjoyed checking out the crusty stuff.

Do you have stuff like this in your yard???

Did you recognize many of the pictures???  What was that thing, huh???

Have a good one and thanks for stopping by!  Shell
